About the Author

Sian Francis is a Registered Nurse, Rehabilitation Case Manager and Expert Witness, with more than 15 years of professional experience across NHS, private and corporate environments.

Her clinical background spans intensive care, emergency, medical, surgical and community settings, with particular experience in brain, catastrophic and complex orthopaedic injury.

Alongside her clinical work, Sian has held roles involving leadership, management, assessment and project delivery, developing a strong focus on critical analysis, professional judgement and clear, defensible reporting. Her medico-legal work has included both quantum and liability matters, alongside her ongoing work as a Case Manager and Expert Witness.

Her interest in artificial intelligence developed from recognising both its growing presence in professional practice and the potential consequences when technology is treated as harmless simply because it appears efficient or familiar. Her particular concern is for those who may be vulnerable to the consequences of professional reliance on AI when its limitations, errors or wider implications are not fully recognised. This led her to explore not only what AI can do, but what professionals need to consider to ensure its use does not undermine professional judgement, accountability or the protection owed to those they serve.

AI in Professional Practice: A Defensible Framework brings together Sian’s professional experience with her extensive work examining AI, professional responsibility, governance and defensible practice.

The result is a practical approach designed to help professionals navigate the growing presence of AI while maintaining the standards, judgement and accountability expected of them.
